New Delhi, September 20, 2019:

The BJP party unit in Delhi was left red-faced after its Mehrauli district chief Azad Singh on Thursday allegedly assaulted his wife, an ex-South Delhi mayor, at the party's Delhi office.

The incident reportedly occurred after a poll-preparedness meeting with senior leader Prakash Javadekar.

The BJP leaders said the two are heading towards a divorce due to marital discord.

The fight broke out as soon as they came out of the meeting called by Javadekar, who is in-charge of Delhi BJP for Assembly polls, at the party office on Pant Marg, a senior leader said.

A senior BJP leader said that the duo are involved in a marital discord for many years.

Singh was removed from the post of Mehrauli district president on the command of Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari.

In his defense, Singh said that his wife had first abused and attacked him, so he pushed her in self-defense.

A video of the incident has reportedly been circulating on social media platforms.
