A truck driver has been issued the heaviest challan of over Rs 2 lakh since the introduction of the new Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act, 2019 in Mukarba Chowk in Delhi.
The driver identified as Ram Kishan was issued a challan of Rs 2,00,500 on Thursday for overloading his truck. He was intercepted by the traffic officials near Mukarba Chowk and after finding out that the truck was overloaded, he was slapped with a heavy fine.
As per the new MV Act, the penalty for overloading was increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 20,000. The charges for the extra weight were also increased from Rs 1,000 per tonne to Rs 2,000 per tonne.

It may be mentioned that on September 5, a man from Rajasthan was fined Rs 1.41 lakh for violating several traffic rules under the newly amended Motor Vehicle Act in Delhi.
Also, a truck driver from Sambalpur district of Odisha was fined a sum of Rs 86,500 for violating several traffic rules.
The Motor Vehicle Act came into force on September 1 in many states of the country.
The new Motor Vehicles Act rules propose a 10-fold increase in fines for offences like traffic violations, drunk driving, driving without a helmet, driving without seat belts and overloading.
