NEW DELHI: On the eve of talks with the Centre on Wednesday, farm unions against the farm bill revised one of their 4 demands- changing “necessary changes’ to the proposed electrical energy modification invoice with a name to withdraw it altogether.
According to reports, the 40 agitating unions on Tuesday claimed that their earlier stance over the electrical energy invoice was because of a ‘mistake’
Sources claimed that the assembly of the group of ministers was meant for routine dialogue on points of costs and availability of important commodities, each Tomar and Goyal will attend the agri talks on Wednesday. So far, each the edges have held six conferences, together with the final one on December 8, with Shah in attendance.
Government and farmers’ unions will meet at 2 pm on Thursday, as protests against the three farm laws enter day 35.
On Monday, the government had proposed to hold the sixth round of talks on Wednesday, with the farmers’ unions accepting the proposal a day later. Initially, responding to the Centre’s offer to hold the sixth round of talks at a date and time as convenient to the farmers, the unions had on Saturday proposed to hold the dialogue at 11 am on December 29. The unions had earlier rejected the government’s first proposal in this regard.
Meanwhile, Social activist Kisan Baburao Hazare popularly known as Anna Hazare announced that if the Centre fails to meet the demands of the concerning farmers, he would go on a hunger strike on January 2021. He further added that it would be his last protest.
Earlier this month, Hazare had written a letter to Union Agriculture Minister warning of a hunger strike if the demands of the farmers were not accepted.
