Aligarh Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 60-70 women for allegedly staging a protest against the amended Citizenship Act (CAA) and the National Population Register (NPR).
The Police said that the women had violated Section 144 by staging their demonstration against the CAA and NPR.

Anil Samania, Circle Officer (CO) of Aligarh Civil Lines, said that some women had tried to stage a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Population Register, which was a violation of Section 144. He informed that the FIR had been registered against 60-70 women for the agitation.
It may be mentioned here that protests had erupted across the country following the passage of the CAB in the Rajya Sabha. Several deaths were reported during the violent Anti-CAA protests. Section 144 was imposed in many parts of the northern and eastern parts of India, especially Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, etc.

The agitation continued even during the curfew hours. Although government had issued the official gazette notifying the implementation of the CAA in the country, people are continuing to raise their resentment.
The Citizenship Amendment Act has been tagged as ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘communal’ and is the most controversial exercise of India in the recent days. It grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists, and Christians facing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.
