Leh, October 28, 2019:

The first-ever Ladakh Literature Festival (LLF) is scheduled from 29th to 31st October this year.

The festival will mark the official separation of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, which will become the United territories on 31st October.

The Ladakh Literature Festival, a festival of literature, culture and art, will begin in the State of Jammu & Kashmir state and culminate in the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh, on 31st October.

The initiative of the festival has been taken up by Divisional Commissioner Ladakh, Saugat Biswas, the Ladakh Literature Festival 2019. It is being jointly organized by J&K Tourism, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, Ladakh Media & Art Organisation (LAMO) and All Ladakh Tours Operators’ Association (ALTOA).

LLF will begin at Leh Palace with Lhar-nga, a musical offering to God. This will be followed by activities including ‘A Confluence of Music and Dance’, talk on ‘Leh Palace witnessing change’, folk culture of Ladakh through music and films, screening of film Voice of Women within folk songs, folklores, stories, presentations on History and Archaeology of Ladakh, discussion on Art conservation and Heritage, a reading and one-on-one with authors Anil Swarup, Lhu Soma and musical presentation by Ladakhi singers and musicians.

On October 30, activities will include ‘Scaling the Everest; In Conversation with women Everesters from Ladakh, Presentations on Tracing the culinary evolution of Ladakh, Multilingual Mehfil-e-Mushaira, Fiction Writers of Ladakh: A reflection on their journeys, Art through New Media- graphic and animation, Role of films in society and Role of theatre in society etc.

Ladakh will become a Union Territory on a concluding day. As per schedule, there will be talks and presentations on Journalism in the age of Fake News, Economics of Journalism, and Gender and ethnic representation in media.

Modern Development and ecosystem, Ladakh on world Heritage map and Theatrical performance will be the other highlights of the day.

There will also be workshops on all three on ‘Telling story through new media-graphic and animation, Learn Woodcut Print, History, Historians and Historiography, Pinhole Camera Workshop: An exercise in understanding an optical phenomenon that makes us and our cameras see the world and Live Canvas, painting etc.

Main events and plenary discussions of Ladakh Literature Festival will take place in Leh Palace, Grand Dragon, Central Asian Museum, LAMO Centre, and Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra (SSK) while simultaneous workshops will be held in Ambedkar Library, Spindle Studio, REWA Society, District Library, Girls Higher Secondary School, Tsechu Lhamo Art Gallery, Shanti Stupa and TRC Leh.
