At least five people were severely injured after a fire broke out at an LPG plant of the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) in Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
According to the police, the injured persons have been identified as HPCL officer P Kumar, fitter Subhash Chandra, contractual workers- Mohammad Gufran, Mohammad Asif and Shailendra Yadav. The contractual workers have been admitted at the District Hospital and are currently in a stable condition whereas, P Kumar and Chandra are being treated at the Sushrut Institute Of Plastic Surgery Hospital Lucknow.
Speaking on the issue, Devendra Kumar Pandey, the district magistrate said that it took almost two hours to control the fire. A huge number of fire department personnel and police officials were deployed to bring the entire situation under control.

He added that the authorities asked the people living in a radius of 1.5 kilometres to move out to a safer place and also a high alert has been imposed in an area of 4-5 kilometres.
The authorities also deployed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for assistance in controlling the situation.
Officials informed that the incident took place after a suspected damaged valve started to leak gas.

In order to control the situation, authorities also took steps and stopped several trains. As per officials, trains to Kanpur were stopped near the Ajgain Railway Station and Sonik Railway Stations, while the trains to Lucknow were stopped at the Unnao Station.
Several roads near the area were also closed in order to prevent further damage.
