New Delhi, August 24, 2019:

Former Union Finance Minister of India, Arun Jaitley, has breathed his last. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was admitted to AIIMS in New Delhi.

The veteran BJP leader, who was brought in to the hospital on August 9, had been put on life support. He breathed his last at 12:07 pm.

Jaitley, who was an important member of the Nadrendra Modi-led NDA Government, had held the finance and defence portfolios under the Modi regime. He was also a former attorney.

This will come as a major blow to the BJP, which had recently lost another senior leader, former External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, recently.

Arun Jaitley was admitted to the hospital after he complained of breathlessness and restlessness. Because of his ill-health, Arun Jaitley refrained from contesting the 2019 elections.

In May 2017, Jaitley had undergone a renal transplant with Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

Jaitley served as the Finance Minister in the Modi government’s first term in office. However, due to his poor health, he was forced not to present the Interim Budget in February this year before the Lok Sabha polls.
