Goa Chief Minister and former Defence Minister of India Manohar Parrikar passed away on Sunday. He was 63. Parrikar had been Chief Minister of Goa since 14 March 2017. Previously he was Chief Minister of Goa from 2000-2005 and again from 2012-2014.
Parrikar had been diagnosed with a ‘pancreatic ailment’ last year and had been in and out of hospitals in Goa, Mumbai, Delhi, and New York since February last year.
President of India Ramnath Kovind took to Twitter to express his condolences. He wrote: “Extremely sorry to hear of the passing of Shri Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister of Goa after an illness borne with fortitude and dignity. An epitome of integrity and dedication in public life, his service to the people of Goa and of India will not be forgotten #PresidentKovind.”
