Guwahati, October 9, 2018:

Google has finally decided to shut down its consumer version of Google+ on Monday after a report released by Wall Street Journal (WSJ) stated “Google exposed the private data of hundreds of thousands” of its users and did not disclose the issue.

Google in a blog post said it had already found and solved the bug in March 2018 but it could not confirm how many Google+ users were affected by this bug.

However, on the basis of a detailed analysis, up to 500,000 Google+ accounts have been affected. Google further added, there is no evidence that the developers misused personal profile data.

Apart from shutting down Google+, it will also curb the access it allows to developers to use data on android devices and Gmail. It means that developers will no longer get call logs and SMS permissions on Android devices.
