The Uttar Pradesh Police arrested a suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militant hailing from Assam in Kanpur on Thursday.
According to police, the suspected terrorist was identified as Qamar Uz Zaman who is a resident of Assam’s Jamunamukh.
UP Director General of Police, OP Singh, said Zaman was planning an attack on Ganesh Chaturthi and based on specific inputs, he was arrested from Kanpur's Chakeri.
He said the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) was tracking him for the past few days leading to his arrest. The terrorist came under the police radar after he had posted a photo of him with an AK-47 rifle on social media. The police further added that he was trained in Pakistan last year.
According to police, Zaman is educated in computer application but is not a graduate.
