Indian Air Force's Wing Commander S Dhami scripts history as she becomes the first female officer in the country to become the Flight Commander of a flying unit.
Dhami recently took over the charge as the Flight Commander of a Chetak helicopter unit at Hindon airbase. Flight Commander is the second in command of the unit.
With the record of over 2300 hours of flying, S Dhami has become IAF's first female Qualified Flying instructor for Chetak and Cheetah helicopters.

She is also the first woman officer to be granted permanent commission for a long tenure of the flying branch in the Air Force and has been flying choppers.
Hailing from Ludhiyana, Dhami served in the IAF for 15 years.
It is to be mentioned that, on 19 February, Avani Chaturvedi from Madhya Pradesh became the first Indian woman to fly the MiG 21 Bison, solo. On June 2016, Chaturvedi, along with Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Singh, also made history by becoming India’s first female fighter pilots after receiving six months of intensive training at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Hyderabad.
