The Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in Guwahati city on Thursday, bringing the "Prime Minister's message" to the "economic corridor to the Northeast". Addressing various issues relating to the Indian economy, she also launched into a tirade against the Congress party here today.
Amid reports of a national economic slowdown, Sitharaman also said that the economy of India continues to be the "fastest growing economy of the world."
Recently, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved a record Rs.1.76 lakh-crore ($24.4 billion) payout to the central government. This boost comes at a time when the Indian Government is under pressure to provide a fiscal stimulus to the slowing economy.

Reacting to the Congress' attack earlier today, calling the Modi Govt "unfit", she said that the Congress ran the economy with double-digit inflation for ten years. "Prices were skyrocketing during their time, and added that the party was unable to even give people the basic endowments, such as 2G.
"They have not learnt their lessons after their defeat in 2014 and this year once again, because of their bad practices", she alleged, adding that "the people have told them what they think of them, I hope the Congress party can introspect."
Talking about encouraging the spirit of entrepreneurship, she said "small medium large, whatever be the size, entrepreneurship should be encouraged", adding that tax officials should be facilitators, instead of enforcers.
She further said that "consumption" and "boosting of consumption" are areas which the Government has addressed time-and-again.
The Finance Minister said that there will be "considerable amounts for infrastructure building" by the BJP-led Government.
