New Delhi, May 2, 2020:

Total cases of the COVID-19 in India have risen to 37,336, with 1,218 deaths so far. 26,167 of the cases are 'active', while 9,950 of the patients have been cured or discharged. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has reported 2293 new cases and 71 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours.

Alarmingly, this is the highest number of cases reported in a single day.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Health Department has said that 12 new positive cases of the COVID-19 and 3 deaths have been reported today in Rajasthan taking the total number of cases to 2678 and 65 deaths. In the state, 1,116 people have recovered while 714 have been discharged till date.

The country has meanwhile extended the lockdown by a further two weeks. However, this time, the centre provided some relaxations for various business activities and people's movement within areas with limited or no COVID-19 cases.

International Tally:

Globally, 3,401,231 cases of the deadly virus have been reported so far, with 239,604 deaths and 1,081,689 recoveries.

In US alone, the number of cases stands at 1,131,452, with 65,776 deaths. Spain, meanwhile, with 24,824 casualties, has overcome Italy to become the country with the highest number of deaths.  There have been 1,883 deaths due to the novel coronavirus disease in the US in the past 24 hours, according to the John Hopkins University tracker.

Interestingly, the Corona curve in China, suspected to be the originating place of the virus, seems to have flattened out. The nation has reported a single new coronavirus case versus 12 a day earlier. The total number of confirmed cases in the country has reached 82,875. With no new deaths on Friday, the toll remained at 4,633.
