New Delhi, April 6, 2020:

The Indian Armed forces launched an operation at the Line of Control (LoC) and engaged infiltrators, suspected to have links with Pakistan, in a close quarter battle. Although all 5 infiltrators were neutralized, five of the jawans succumbed to injuries they had sustained during the operation, official reports have confirmed.

Four soldiers under the command of a Junior Commissioned Officer from one of the most professional units were dropped by helicopters near the Line of Control after information on the infiltrators was received. An intense hand-to-hand battle ensued and all five terrorists were eliminated, official reports said. However, the Indian Army lost five of its soldiers in the skirmish -- three on the site and two more who succumbed while they were being airlifted to a nearby military hospital.

The Indian Army Special Forces squad which took part in the operation was led by Subedar Sanjeev Kumar and included Havildar Davendra Singh, Paratrooper Bal Krishan, Paratrooper Amit Kumar and Paratrooper Chhatrapal Singh.

This development took place against the backdrop of the Indian Armed Forces eliminating at least 9 terrorists along the LoC within a span of 24 hours.

According to reports, five terrorists have been eliminated along the Line of Control (LoC) at Keran village in Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir while they were trying to infiltrate from across the LoC.

Four terrorists were killed earlier on Saturday in South Kashmir’s Batpura. It needs mention here that one Jawan has been killed in the Keran incident and two others are critically injured.

Operations to evacuate the injured have been impacted by heavy snow and rough terrain conditions. Efforts are on and further details are awaited.
