New Delhi, December 30, 2019:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to counter the sea of resentment against the amendment of the Citizenship Act, has launched a new Twitter campaign: #IndiaSupportsCAA.

A tweet sent out from an official Twitter handle of the Prime Minister that was sent out earlier today, reads: "

data-query-source="hashtag_click">#IndiaSupportsCAA because CAA is about giving citizenship to persecuted refugees & not about taking anyone’s citizenship away. Check out this hashtag in Your Voice section of Volunteer module on NaMo App for content, graphics, videos & more. Share & show your support for CAA.."

PM Modi, who rode public goodwill to historic election triumphs in 2014 and 2019, is known for his catchy slogans (acche din, main bhi chowkidaar) and wildly successful social media campaigns. However, it will take a miracle to transform the nationwide resentment against the 'CAA' through social media, and it can hence be argued that this campaign faces an uphill task to find acceptance.

Reportedly, the campaign has been kickstarted to "educate" the people about the 'CAA'. However, despite the Prime Minister and the ruling BJP party's numerous assurances that the Bill-turned-Act, tensions across the country remain at an all-time high, with protests still continuing in several states.
