Kanhaiya Kumar, former president of the JNU students’ union, has been chosen as the CPI candidate from Begusarai in Bihar for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in the state. This decision was taken by the Left after Kanhaiya was overlooked by the opposition coalition in the state.
It was widely speculated that Kanhaiya would be the opposition candidate from the Constituency, but he was overlooked as no seats were given to the CPI or CPI-M.
It is to be mentioned that Begusarai is called the Leningrad of Bihar as it is the breeding ground of Left politics in the state.
The elections will be held in seven phases from 11 April onwards and counting will be held on 23 May.
