Firebrand student leader and CPI candidate from Begusarai Kanhaiya Kumar on Tuesday launched a crowdfunding campaign to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. Remarkably, the campaign has raised Rs 5 lakh within hours of its launch.
Kanhaiya took to Twitter to ask for votes as well as funds in order to defeat his BJP rival, Union Minister Giriraj Singh, who is an influential Bhumihar leader.
“Friends, you are all aware that in a bid to seek votes, people have hurt the democracy and have put the Constitution in danger. In these times, the battle to safeguard constitutional values has to be fought by the people of this country together. I hope that you all shall contribute financially so as to strengthen this struggle,” Kumar’s crowdfunding page says.
Kanhaiya’s Lok Sabha election contest with Singh is being widely seen as a ‘David vs Goliath’ type battle with the upstart newbie with no political experience being pitted against the veteran politician.
