Kashmiri student beaten up in Sharda University

Guwahati, October 5, 2018:

A Kashmiri student of Noida’s Sharda University was allegedly beaten up on Thursday following a brawl between groups of Indian and Afghan students.

What triggered the incident was a video showing three Afghan students bashing up Indian students on Monday.

Ahtisham Bilal, a first-year student of medical imaging technology hailing from Kashmir, was targeted for allegedly posting “provocative” messages on a WhatsApp group at the behest of the Afghan students involved in the fight.

Taking cognizance of the incident, the police had filed an FIR suo motu. The police booked 350-400 students in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, university held a meeting to take stock of the situation and suspended the three Afghan students. The university announced that it would remain closed till Sunday
