Kolkata, November 20, 2019:

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made her stand clear that her government will not allow the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to be implemented in the state soon after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s announcement of initiating the exercise across India.

Reportedly, Mamata Banerjee said nobody can take away any person's citizenship and make a person a ‘refugee’.

Challenging the BJP party, Didi asked to clarify why the names of 14 lakh Hindus and Bengalis were left out of the final NRC brought out in Assam, published on August 31.

Terming that the NRC was a part of the Assam Accord in the state, she said that it can never be implemented across India.

She also alleged that some people are trying to provoke distress in the state by saying that NRC exercise will be carried out in Bengal. She made it clear that her party will never allow the NRC exercise in Bengal.

Banerjee called the proposed nationwide NRC a "conspiracy" to divide the state in the name of religion.

Amit Shah told in the Rajya Sabha that NRC will be implemented nationwide, and asserted that no person from any religion need to be afraid of it.

Reportedly, the proposed implementation of the NRC in Bengal has created panic and claimed 11 lives in the state.
