Markets are bright again but COVID-19 still persists, warns PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday informed about the resumption of economic activity in India.

While addressing the nation today, PM further warned the citizens that in this festive season, people have to keep in mind that even if the lockdown has be lifted, COVID-19 still persists.

PM Modi said that "A committee of scientists appointed by the government recently said that coronavirus in India may have already peaked and infection will likely “run its course” by February 2021."

This is PM Modi’s seventh address to the nation since the coronavirus outbreak in the country. He had previously addressed the nation or shared a message with fellow citizens on June 30, May 12, April 14, April 03, March 24, and March 19.

In his previous addresses, the prime minister had spoken about various measures being taken to curb the virus' spread and had also announced economic and welfare packages.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday had said that the government has not yet closed an option of another Covid-19 stimulus relief package to boost the economy which has received a devastating blow from the coronavirus pandemic.

"We have now started doing some kind of assessment on GDP contraction, we have got some input. We will have to come up with the assessment, whether in parliament or in public," said Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the launch of a book by NK Singh, Chairperson of 15th Finance Commission.
