Murlidhar, Who Had Ordered Delhi Police to Register "Hate Speeches" by BJP Leaders Transferred

New Delhi, February 27, 2020:

The Ministry of Law and Justice late on Wednesday night issued a notification stating the transfer of Justice S. Murlidhar, who had earlier come down heavily on Delhi Police over its inaction on hate speeches of the ruling party leaders.

According to the notification, Justice Murlidhar has been transferred from Delhi High Court to Punjab and Haryana High Court.

"In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the CHief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice S. Murlidhar, Judge of the Delhi High Court, as a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High COurt and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Punjab and Hiaryana High Court," read the notification.

It may be mentioned here that on February 12, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the transfer of Justice Muralidhar. However, the notification of the Ministry of Law and Justice came on the day when he came down heavily on the Delhi Police for its inaction over registering hate speeches by BJP leaders.

The Delhi High Court Bar Association has condemned the Ministry's recommendation to transfer Murlidhar. It needs mention here that the Judge had come to the rescue of the patients stuck in a hospital in northeast Delhi and had directed Delhi Police to escort them safely out of the hospital to another one.
