Mumbai: Pandemonium has broken out across the nation after Mumbai Police arrested noted journalist Arnab Goswami from this residence earlier in the morning today.
A host of political leaders and celebrities from the nation have taken up the cause for his release on social media.
Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, Government of India and MP of Gandhinagar Lok Sabha condemned Arnab's arrest.
Shah tweeted saying “Congress and its allies have shamed democracy once again. Blatant misuse of state power against Republic TV & Arnab Goswami is an attack on individual freedom and the 4th pillar of democracy. It reminds us of the Emergency. This attack on free press must be and WILL BE OPPOSED.”
Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (Ind Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region also tweeted saying, “Are we returning to an age of facism and dictatorship in the garb of democracy? Vendetta politics exceeding all limits.Absolutely no ground to arrest #ArnabGoswami. Minimum that the Maharashtra Govt can do to vindicate the freedom of press is to release him immediately.”
The official handle of BJP Karnataka compared Goswami's arrest to "fascism". “The arrest of #ArnabGoswami by Mumbai Police is a brutal attack on Freedom of Expression. Through this act of Fascism, Sonia Gandhi and her Fascist Gang have assaulted Democracy. This brazen act by INCindia reminds the horrors of Emergency under Indira Gandhi."

Republic tv, Arnab's channel, tweeted, “#IndiaWithArnab | Arnab Goswami’s arrest has been made part of a larger vindictive exercise against an independent journalist & news network. This is to bring to light real facts on unfounded allegations in a closed case based on which #ArnabGoswami was assaulted & arrested”
Rajdeep Sardesai, editor in chief of India Today also shared a copy of the Editors' Guild of India's statement in which it had condemned the arrest ”The Editors Guild of India has issued a statement on the arrest of Arnab Goswami, editor-in-chief of Republic TV,” he wrote in his caption.
Dhruv Rathee, taking a dig at Arnab, said, “#AntiNationalArrested #TukdeTukdeMasterGone #DalaliGangCrackdown Arnab is lucky that there is no other Arnab in the country. Otherwise, these are typical hashtags that would be running on news all day, trying to trash him and incite public against him."
Congress leaders from the nation are yet to comment on Goswami’s arrest. The journalist has been a very vocal critic of Sonia Gandhi, the President of the Grand Old Party.
