National leaders pay tribute to ‘Bapu’ on Martyr’s Day

Guwahati, January 30, 2019:

30th January is observed as Martyr’s day in India and it is also the 71st death anniversary of the father of the nation, M.K Gandhi. The date was chosen for Martyr’s day as it marks the assassination of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in 1948 by Nathuram Godse.

Several politicians took to Twitter and recalled the sacrifice of Gandhi, the father of the nation.

“On Martyrs’ Day, we gratefully remember Mahatma Gandhi and the countless freedom fighters who sacrificed their all for our Independence” tweeted President Ram Nath Kovind.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted on the occasion and said that: “Tomorrow, on Bapu’s Punya Tithi, I will be in Dandi, the place from where Bapu challenged the might of colonialism. In Dandi, the National Salt Satyagraha Memorial will be dedicated to the nation. This is a tribute to Satyagrahis led by Gandhi Ji, who worked for India’s freedom”.

Narendra Modi also announced that he will inaugurate the National Salt Satyagraha Memorial at Dandi in Gujarat on the occasion of Martyr’s Day.

National leaders will pay tribute to ‘Bapu’ today at his ‘Samadhi sthal’ in Raj Ghat memorial in New Delhi and address the prayer meeting.
