Naveen Patnaik has taken oath as the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader is all set to begin his fifth term as the Chief Minister of the eastern Indian state of Odisha. The BJP supremo Patnaik and team were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Ganeshi Lal in a grand ceremony at the Idco Exhibition Ground in the state capital today
Patnaik won the recently-concluded Assembly elections with a resounding margin of victory and will begin his fifth consecutive term in the State of Odisha. A 20-member Council of Ministers also swore-in with the 72-year-old Patnaik in the state capital of Bhubaneswar today
It may be mentioned that Naveen Patnaik is one of the longest-serving chief ministers in the country.
Naveen Patnaik visited the 'Srimandira' in Puri ahead of his swearing-in ceremony to seek blessings.
Patnaik had to contend with many obstacles ahead of the elections in the State. Apart from the buoyant BJP piggybacking on the appeal of their star-campaigner Narendra Modi in the election run-up, the Prime Minister-designate also had to deal with the threat of the "very severe" cyclone Fani which left death and destruction in its wake IN Odisha as well as neighboring West Bengal.
But to his credit, Patnaik stood strong and his leadership ability shone through when the Odisha Government evacuated 1.2 million people from Puri. The administration's work was even lauded by the United Nations.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Patnaik through the official handle of the social media platform Twitter. He wrote: "Congratulations to Shri Naveen Patnaik Ji on taking oath as Odisha’s Chief Minister. Best wishes to him and his team in fulfilling the people’s aspirations. I assure complete cooperation from the Centre in working for Odisha’s progress. " data-mentioned-user-id="3489768920">@Naveen_Odisha"
