NEW DELHI: In a bizarre development, Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu has tendered his resignation from the post today in the poll-bound state.

The move came ahead of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's Delhi visit.

A little over a week after stepping down as Punjab Chief Minister following a bitter feud with Navjot Singh Sidhu, the former Punjab CM is likely to meet Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital.

Tendering his resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Sidhu wrote, "The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise". Stating that he will continue to work in Congress. This development comes days after his aide Charanjit Singh Channi was sworn in as Punjab CM.

The ongoing crisis in the Punjab Congress unit could prove ominous for the party as it prepares for re-election in the 2022 Assembly polls.

Barely 10 days after Captain Amarinder Singh stepped down as the state chief minister, Navjot Singh Sidhu put down his papers from the post of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, a move that fuels the fire of a bitter political power tussle between the two.

Meanwhile, Former Chief Minister of Punjab Amarinder Singh took to Twitter and wrote, "I told you so…he is not a stable man and not fit for the border state of punjab."
