Guwahati, March 26, 2019:

A survey conducted by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) has revealed that unemployment rate went up from 2.2 per cent in 2011-12 to 6.1 per cent in 2017-18, which implies job loss of 11 million during these six years.

The first Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) conducted by NSSO in 2017-18 showed steep decline in labour force participation rate (LFPR) from 39.5 per cent in 2011-12 to 36.9 per cent in 2017-18 largely due to large decline in female Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR).

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government has been claiming of generating 18 million jobs in the last 15 months which includes 3.4 million jobs in 2018, out of which 2.2 million were generated by Ola and Uber taxi apps. The survey has also revealed that under that large scale employment was generated under the MUDRA loan scheme. This clearly shows that the promises of the BJP are yet to be fulfilled and much needs to be done in the employment sector.

'Achche din' when?
