For the first time, the state of Odisha sets a record with diesel price being costlier than that of the price of petrol.
Diesel was sold at Rs 80.78 per litre on Sunday while petrol was sold in the range of Rs 80.57 to Rs 80.65 per litre at the state.
“The development is attributed to equal percentage of Value Added Tax (TAX) being collected by the Odisha government from both petrol and diesel, while other states have different VAT rates”, Sanjay Lath, Secretary of Utkal Petroleum Dealers’ Association said.
It is feared that this trend will have a direct impact on the prices of essential commodities.
