J&K, August 17, 2019:

The Pakistan Armed forces on Saturday initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation in Nowshera Sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) by small arms fire and shelling with mortars. The violation took place at about 6:30 am.

According to reports, the Indian Army jawans are responding to the attack. It is to be mentioned that the recent abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir, have led to clashes in the valley. The news of the ceasefire violation comes on the 13th day after the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, which gave special rights to Kashmiri citizens. As a result of this, Pakistan stopped the ‘Samjhauta Express’ and tensions between the two arch-rivals has hit an all-time high.

Meanwhile, the White House said US President Donald Trump conveyed the importance of India and Pakistan reducing tensions through ‘bilateral dialogue’ during a phone call with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said India is "firmly committed" to its 'no first use' of nuclear weapons policy, but future of the security doctrine will depend on the circumstances.
