Actor Priyanka Chopra has terminated her contract as the global brand ambassador of Nirav Modi Jewels in the light of the allegations of financial fraud against Mr. Modi.
She said she was seeking legal opinion on the matter. “In the light of recent allegations, Priyanka Chopra has chosen to terminate her contract with the Nirav Modi brand,” Ms. Chopra’s spokesperson said today.
Last week, amid revelations that Nirav Modi was the prime accused in an Rs 11,515 crore fraud involving the Punjab National bank, several reports suggested that Priyanka was suing the brand for non-payment of dues.
Her spokesperson, however, clarified that Priyanka had not sued Nirav Modi but was seeking legal opinion to terminate her contract. "There are speculative reports that Priyanka Chopra has sued Nirav Modi. This is not true. However, she is currently seeking a legal opinion with respect to terminating her contract with the brand in light of allegations of financial fraud against Nirav Modi," Priyanka's spokesperson said.
The Enforcement Directorate, meanwhile, seized at least nine imported vehicles and froze several assets of Nirav Modi, including a large collection of imported watches and Rs 44 crore worth shares belonging to him.
