Priyanka Gandhi appointed Congress GS of UP East

Guwahati, January 23, 2019:

Priyanka Gandhi Vohra has formally entered the Indian politics after she was named General Secretary (GS) of the Congress party for Uttar Pradesh East.

Priyanka Gandhi, 47, will assist Congress president and her brother Rahul Gandhi in the State, which has 80 Lok Sabha seats largest of any state in the country.

Commenting on Priyanka Gandhi's appointment as general secretary for Uttar Pradesh (UP) east, Rahul Gandhi said: "I am very happy that my sister Priyanka will assist me in UP in the Lok Sabha polls. She is very capable."

"We will play on the front foot, not the back foot," Rahul Gandhi said when asked about Congress' plan to revive the party in Uttar Pradesh.

Her appointed now pitches her against the ruling BJP party’s top two most influential leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose constituency Varanasi will be in her share and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
