In an astonishing development, Rahul Gandhi (lovingly called 'RaGa') and several other opposition leaders, were turned away from Srinagar airport on Saturday. After landing in Delhi airport, Raga said that the delegation of opposition leaders was not allowed beyond the airport.
Rahul had initially planned the expedition to make "sense of what people were going through in the region" after the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special rights to Kashmiri citizens.
However, after being sent back, Rahul has opined that "all is not well" in the valley, despite numerous media reports that peace prevails in the disturbed region in the wake of the abrogation of Article 370.What is even more shocking is that Rahul claimed that media persons who had accompanied him were manhandled by security personnel.
Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was also a part of the delegation, has said that the situation in the valley is "terrifying", adding that "the stories we heard from the passengers of Kashmir present in our flight, would bring tears even to a stone."
In a video released from Kashmir, bruises on the arms of a female reporter, who can be seen asking a security personnel for answers, can clearly be seen.
The reporter was being shoo'ed and the armed personnel did not answer a single one of her questions amid ensuing chaos at the airport.
These incidents have caused a lot of confusion in the minds of the people. Is the situation in Kashmir as peaceful as is being reported? Why is the sitting administration not answering the questions posited by the press fraternity? Has the unrest brewing in the Valley ever since the days of Independence suddenly evaporated after the highly controversial decision to revoke the Article?
