Guwahati, February 5, 2019:

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Kolkata Police Commissioner, Rajeev Kumar to make himself available before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the investigation procedure of Sraradha chit fund case.

The apex court has directed Kumar to appear before the CBI in connection with the case in Shillong, Meghalaya.

The court also said no coercive steps, including the arrest of the Kolkata police chief, will take place during the course of the investigation.

Slamming the state government, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the matter shouldn't be politicised. Claiming the decision of the SC as a great moral victory for the CBI, Prasad asserted that lakhs of small investors were cheated and looted off their money.

He questioned Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee's silence on the matter and reiterated that the investigation must be done in a fair manner. The Kolkata police commissioner will appear before the CBI in Shillong as the environment is not conducive in West Bengal, he added.
