SEVEN MYANMAR NATIONAL DEPORTED FROM ASSAM

Guwahati, October 4, 2018:

Seven Myanmar nationals, who were under detention in Silchar Central Jail, were deported to their country on Thursday. The seven Myanmar nationals were taken to the Moreh border from Central Jail Silchar on Wednesday.

Speaking exclusively to InsideNe, Superintendent of Police, Tengnoupal district Dr S Ibomcha Singh told that the seven Rohingya immigrants were handed over to Myanmar authorities at 1.30 pm. A host of Myanmar authorities including the immigration officer received the immigrants on the Myanmar side.

It may be mentioned that eight Myanmar nationals were arrested for violating the Foreigners’ Act in 2012, and according to reports one of them was deported a few days back. Mohammad Jamal, Maqbul Khan, Jamal Hussain, Mohammad Yunus, Sabbir Ahmed, Rahim Uddin and Mohammad Salam, all between the age group 26 and 36, had entered India illegally through the Bangladesh border before their arrest six years back.

Earlier, the Supreme Court rejected the plea to stop the deportation of the Rohingya immigrants to Mizoram from Assam. The three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi rejected the plea saying that the seven were found as illegal immigrants by the court earlier and that Myanmar is also ready to accept them as their nationals.
