Guwahati, October 10, 2018:
Seven people died and 35 others were injured after the New Farakka Express derailed near Harchandpur Railway Station in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday at 6.30am.
According to reports, the train was heading from Malda town in West Bengal to New Delhi when the mishap took place.
A rescue team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was sent to the accident site for rescue and relief operations.
Trains on the Varanasi-Lucknow route were halted. Officials expected that the causalities will rise.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced ex gratia payment of Rs.2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased persons and Rs.50,000 for those who sustained serious injuries.
