Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that Party Chief Sharad Pawar is the latest target of the current ‘vindictive’ Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government.
Gandhi took to Twitter to call the BJP government ‘vindictive’ following a money laundering case against the National Congress Party’s Chief, Pawar right ahead of the assembly elections in Maharashtra.
He wrote, “Sharad Pawar Ji is the latest Opposition leader to be targeted by a vindictive Government. The timing of this action, a month before elections in Maharashtra, reeks of political opportunism.”
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has named the NCP Chief in a money laundering case in relation to the 25,000-crore scam of the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank. It involves the sanction of illegal bank loans, according to reports.
Pawar, in this regard, said that the case would certainly affect the election results.
ED’s move comes after the Bombay High Court had passed an order directing the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Pawar and 75 others in the alleged scam.
The petitioner, Surinder Arora, had sought an investigation into the cooperative bank scam, which happened during the rule of the Congress Party leaders.
