Mumbai, November 28, 2019:

Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray was sworn in on Thursday as the 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The Oath to Office was administered to him by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at the historic Shivaji Park in Dadar.

A crowd of over 50,000 supporters, including cadres of the Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena, assembled at the ground to witness the swearing-in ceremony.

Congress veterans Kapil Sibal, Ahmed Patel and Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP president Sharad Pawar, DMK supremo MK Stalin and MNS chief Raj Thackeray, were also present.

Devendra Fadnavis, who deserted the throne a few days back after the BJP could not garner the support, was also a part of the ceremony.

It is pertinent to mention here that Uddhav is the first member from the Thackeray family to become the chief minister and the third Shiv Sena leader to hold the top post.

With the swearing-in of 59-year-old Thackeray, Maharashtra will have a chief minister from the Sena after 20 years. The last Sena man to occupy the chief minister's chair was Narayan Rane in 1999, after Manohar Joshi, who in 1995 became the first CM from the party.
