In the latest incident of crackdown against terrorism in the Kashmir Valley, one terrorist has been killed in Baramulla district. As per reports, the terrorist belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit.

The encounter started at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday and continued till 3.30 a.m. the next day. The encounter began after cordon and search operation was launched jointly by the police and security forces in Ganie-Hamam area in J&K's Baramulla district.

In the exchange of fire two policemen sustained injuries - special police offier Bilal Ahmad and sub-inspector Amardeep Parihar, the police spokesman added.

Bilal Ahmad succumbed to injuries while sub-inspector Parihar has been admitted to the Army hospital, he said.

It may be mentioned here that yesterday, the Pakistan Army had resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation along the line of control (LOC) in Mendhar and Krishna Ghati Sectors of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K’s) Poonch district. As per reports, heavy damage to Pakistan Army posts and casualties to Pakistan soldiers has been inflicted by the troops of the Indian Army.

A jawan, Ravi Ranjan Kumar Singh, had been martyred in the exchange of fire between Pakistan Army and Indian Army in Mendhar Sector in Poonch.

Naik Ravi Ranjan Kumar Singh, aged 36 years, was a resident of Gope Bigha village of Dehrionson Tehsil in Rotasa district, Bihar. The jawan is survived by his wife, Rita Devi.
