Today, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista met Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji to discuss various issues concerning the Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars. The MP also told the PM that "people in Bengal need BJP to get rid of the Trinamool Congress and their oppressive regime in the 2021 elections."
The MP informed through an official release stated that he thanked the Prime Minister for his continued guidance and unflinching support he has extended to him over the years.
"I informed him about the immense love and trust people of our region, and North Bengal have towards his leadership, and told him how the people of Darjeeling LS Constituency had elected a BJP Member of Parliament for the 3rd consecutive time", he added.

Among other things, they discussed about the region and the challenges faced by the MP.
Bista informed Modi about the sensitive Chicken Neck region and the significance of
Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars from our national security perspective, and also informed
him about the discrimination people there have to face.
The MP also informed that he had sought a "permanent political solution" from the PM. "I apprised him about the potential of our region to become one of the most peaceful and prosperous in the nation. In order to ensure long term peace and ushering in prosperity in the region, I have requested his intervention with regards to arriving at Permanent Political Solution as committed to in our 2019 Sankalp Patra", he said.
Bista also reminded him about the pending ST issue of 11 left-out Gorkha tribes and requested him to help expedite the process.
The Darjeeling MP also highlighted the potential of Siliguri to emerge as the hub of
international trade, tourism and commerce.
According to the release, the MP also informed how decades of neglect have left the districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Chopra and rest of North Bengal deprived of basic infrastructure and amenities; and requested for the PM's help to transform the region.
The MP says that PM Modi acknowledged the importance of peace prevailing in the Chicken Neck region and told me that the Government is equally concerned about resolving the issues of the region.
It may be mentioned here that the BJP, buoyed by its strong showing in the 2019 General Elections, is making headway in Bengal, and hopes to topple the ruling Trinamool Congress party in the upcoming 2021 Assembly election.
