Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Compares Indian Economy to Movie 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham'

New Delhi, September 15, 2019:

In a bid to explain the plunging of the Indian economy, Union minister Nitin Gadkari used a dialogue from the hit movie, 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham'. The Union Minister advised industries such as the automobile sector, MSMEs and others facing slowdown to not lose hope because of the slowdown. "Kabhi Khushi Hoti Hain Kabhi Gam Hota Hain", he said. Translated roughly, this means: "sometimes, there is happiness, sometimes, there is sorrow".

Speaking at a function on the 65th foundation day of the Vidarbha Industries Association, Gadkari said on Saturday, "Recently I met automobile manufacturers at all India convention of automobile industry and all of them were little worried. I told them, Kabhi Khushi Hoti Hain Kabhi Gam Hota Hain (there are times of joy and times of sorrow)."

He further added that although the industries are going through a tough time now, this time will pass."

Gadkari also said that in the future, India will be the fastest growing economy.

In recent times, the BJP leadership has come under several attacks from the opposition over the slowing of the economy.

Sitharaman explained away the disaster faced by the automobile industry by blaming it on the 'millenial mindset' and the app-based services, Ola, and Uber.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal was also widely condemned for an amusing gaffe, in which he had implied that the Austrian scientist, Albert Einstein, had discovered gravity.

Goyal had said, “Don’t go by all these calculations you see on TV, that if the country has to become a $5 trillion economy, it will have to grow at 12% but right now it is currently growing at 6-7%. Don’t get into those maths. Those maths have never helped Einstein discover gravity.”
