Chipko Movement leader and environmental activist Sunderlal Bahuguna breathed his last on Friday at the All India Institute of Medical Science in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. He tested positive for Covid-19 was 94 at the time of his death.
His death was confirmed by Hospital director Ravikant at noon.
After testing positive for Covid-19, Bahuguna was admitted to the hospital on May 8. On Thursday night his oxygen level dropped drastically making his condition critical.
Condoling his death, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat said that is a huge loss for the entire world.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too expressed grief on the death of the activist.
Bahuguna’s contribution in educating people in the rural areas and encouraging them to protest against destruction of forests and Himalayan mountains can never be forgotten.
