MLA Ram Kadam said on Saturday that films of Javed Akhtar will be not be screened in India until he apologises with folded hands.
According to the reports, on Friday, he said, “I think people who support organisations like the RSS, VHP or Bajrang Dal need to do some introspection. Of course, Taliban are reprehensible… they are barbarians. But the people whom you are supporting, how are they different from them [the Taliban].”
Reportedly, conversation was of 25 minutes where Akhtar said that some people in India want segregation in society and that he saw an “uncanny resemblance” between the Taliban and people “who want to be like Taliban”.
"Just like the Taliban want an Islamic State, there are those who want a Hindu Rashtra. These people are of the same mindset -- be it Muslim, Christian, Jews or Hindus," he further added.
Akhtar also added, “Of course, the Taliban is barbaric, and their actions are reprehensible, but those supporting the RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal are all the same”.
BJP MLA Ram Kadam took to twitter and posted a video captioned with, “This statement by Javed Akhtar is not just shameful, but painful and humiliating for crores of functionaries of the Sangh and the Vishva Hindu Parishad and crores of people across the world who follow their ideology."
The MLA said in the video "We will not allow any of his films to run in this land of Ma Bharti till he apologises with folded hands to the functionaries of the Sangh who have dedicated their lives to the nation."
As per the reports, Javed Akhtar has been critical of the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party and its policies. Also, he has been a member of the Rajya Sabha in the past.
