Guwahati, March 12, 2019:

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday assured a delegation of six communities from Assam that the Congress party will continue to oppose the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. Moreover, RaGa (as he is lovingly called) has confirmed that if the Congress party emerges victorious in the upcoming General Elections, the Bill will be scrapped once and for all.

A joint team comprising of leaders from the six prominent communities of Assam who have been agitating in demand of ST status paid a courtesy call to the Congress President seeking his assurance of fulfillment of their demand in case of a Congress takeover of Government. “Thy will be done”, proclaimed the Congress prince (not literally) and also promised to vanquish the ‘jati destroying’ Bill which has caused all sorts of upheavals in Northeast and has caused the entire region to be in a state of constant uproar.

It is to be mentioned that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill died a ‘natural death’ after Union Minister Rajnath Singh chose not to table it in view of the protests and organized political movements in both the regional and national arenas against the Bill. Meanwhile, Amit Shah and Himanta Biswa Sarma have proclaimed that the implementation of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 will be one of the BJP's topmost agendas in case of a successful re-election bid.
