Swaraj Party leader Yogendra Yadav, in a recent video that has gone viral, has explained that the National Population Register-Citizenship Amendment Act-National Register of Citizens have been designed by the ruling BJP regime to deprive genuine Indian nationals of their citizenship.
“It is like a five finger game, consider it a journey of five fingers”, Yadav says, adding that the “journey” will begin from the smallest finger, that is, National Population Register (NPR).
“In April, a Government official will come knocking on your door. Perhaps a school teacher. They will say they will count how many people are residing in your house. They will ask your name, ask when they were born, they will also ask where and when your parents were born. They will ask for your Aadhaar card, driving licence”, Yadav says, explaining how the NPR process will be carried out.

Yadav explains that the second finger, the second phase of the dreaded “journey” would point to a “doubtful” status in regards to citizenship in India.
“You might not have been able to establish your parents’ age, place of birth. Perhaps the Aadhaar was issued in your name, but you might not be having the number…”, Yadav says, adding that this will happen without the subject’s knowledge or awareness.
It may be mentioned that the NRC exercise in Assam that left over 19 lakh people stateless, has been widely panned for exclusion of legitimate citizens, among other anomalies. “In Assam, neither the Aadhaar was asked for, not the ration card, nor voter list. People were asked to bring proof about their place of birth. Whether yours or your forebears’ names were in the voter lists?”, Yadav says.
The 4th finger, Yadav says, points to the Foreigners’ Tribunal, where the “doubtful” voters left out of the NRC will have to prove that their forebears originate in India.
“If you are a Muslim, no chance, because the CAA comes into play” Yadav says, adding the even non-Muslims have to prove that the people have come from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, or Pakistan.
At last, Yadav says that the “foreigners” will be lumped into detention centres aka jail. “In Assam, detention centres are already there, and construction in Karnataka has begun..”, Yadav says.
According to Yadav, the only way to survive the onslaught of the 5-finger attack is to close all fingers into a fist of resistance, and urged the people to resist the NPR as the first step in the fight against the Government’s policies to allegedly marginalize the masses.
