New Delhi, November 19, 2019:

The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has planned to rename Agra as Agravan.

The state government, after renaming Allahabad as Prayagraj and Mughalsarai as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar, has asked the Ambedkar University in Agra to look into the history of the Taj Mahal-famed site.

The University has received a letter from the state government to check for historical evidence if the city of Taj Mahal was earlier known by some other name, as per reports.

The history department of the university is looking at the proposal and has begun its research.

The state government has planned to change the name of Agra to Agravan since some historians believe that its original name was Agravan.
