1 dead, 17 injured after stage collapses during a religious event in Delhi's Kalkaji Mandir

The Kalkaji Mandir in Delhi was the site of a tragic accident during a religious event on January 27, after a stage, constructed from wood and an iron frame, collapsed during a Mata Jagran ceremony, leading to the death of one woman and injuries to 17 other individuals.

The incident occurred at midnight on Saturday, January 27th, amidst a gathering of approximately 1500-1600 devotees for a 'Jagrata'. 'Jagarata' is a Hindu ritual involving all-night vigils, songs, dances, and worship for venerating the deity. The mishap took place when several devotees, spurred by the hymns being sung, climbed onto the stage. This led to the stage collapsing under their weight.

However, it was reported that the event had not received the necessary permissions, and a case has been registered against the organizers under sections 337/304A/188 IPC by the Delhi Police.

A crime team assessed the scene, and the injured were promptly admitted to a hospital. Fortunately, the condition of the injured is stable, with some suffering fractures.

The Kalkaji Mandir, which remains open throughout the year and welcomes visitors for darshan, was thus marred by this unfortunate event, reminding us of the importance of safety and adherence to regulations during public gatherings.
