BJP National Spokesperson Nalin Kohli has strongly criticized political figures in India for their negative remarks regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Lakshadweep. Kohli expressed his astonishment at the level to which political discourse can stoop, highlighting the Prime Minister's efforts to promote tourism and the "Vocal for Local" initiative.
Kohli remarked, "It is amazing to note that some political figures are criticizing even the positive aspects of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Lakshadweep. He has consistently advocated for boosting tourism in India and promoting local attractions. The enthusiasm generated by his visit among millions of people is commendable."
The BJP spokesperson also noted that while some negative comments emerged from individuals in the Maldives, it was surprising to witness criticism from within India itself. He emphasized the need for constructive dialogue and understanding the positive impact of such visits on the nation's tourism sector.
Earlier today, India raised concerns with the Maldivian government after derogatory remarks were made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Mariyam Shiuna, Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment in the Maldives. Shiuna had referred to PM Modi as a "clown" and "puppet" in now-deleted posts on social media.
The Indian High Commissioner has engaged with the Mohamed Muizzu-led government in Male to address the issue. Former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed condemned Shiuna's language, urging the government to distance itself from such comments and reassure India that they do not reflect official policy.
Despite the controversy, Shiuna repeated her derogatory remarks against PM Modi in various social media interactions. Other Maldives officials, including MP Zahid Rameez, mocked the visit, claiming that Lakshadweep could not compete with the Maldives in terms of tourism services and cleanliness.
