Defence Expert Brigadier Ranjit Borthakur (Retd.) expressed concern over the recent developments in Bangladesh.
He stated that the situation is worrying for India, given the historically strong relations between the two countries. Borthakur clarified that Sheikh Hasina did not flee but left Bangladesh with the support of the Armed Forces.
He highlighted that under Sheikh Hasina's leadership, militant bases in Bangladesh were dismantled, which benefited India's security. However, he noted that the new government might include elements of Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which are known to be anti-India.

During the previous BNP government, several terrorist camps were established in Bangladesh.
Borthakur warned that Jamaat-e-Islami has been supporting fundamentalist activities along the border, particularly affecting Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
He cautioned that attacks on Hindus could lead to an influx of refugees into India. Additionally, he raised concerns about anti-India elements and potential Chinese influence in the region.
He also mentioned that Pakistan's ISI might have a role in the current events. The present Army Chief of Bangladesh has assured that the new government will be balanced for both Hindus and Muslims.
