Himanta says ‘Babri Masjid talk only possible in Bengal,’ targets Mamata govt
Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 16 intensified his attack on Mamata Banerjee, alleging that West Bengal has become a space where controversial statements on religious structures are made without restraint.
Addressing an election rally in Cooch Behar Dakshin, Sarma claimed that such narratives would not be tolerated in states like Assam or Uttar Pradesh, and accused the Trinamool Congress leadership of enabling an environment where “anything can be said.”
He also raised the issue of border security, asserting that fencing work is underway in Assam and Tripura but remains incomplete in West Bengal. Sarma said that if the BJP comes to power in the state, it would strengthen border infrastructure, including electrified fencing to prevent illegal crossings.
Calling for a BJP government across Assam, Tripura, and West Bengal, Sarma said coordinated governance would ensure tighter border control and improved security in the region.
The remarks come amid an intensifying campaign in West Bengal, with sharp exchanges between the BJP and Trinamool Congress over issues of security, governance, and identity politics.
