Kiren Rijiju submits petition to Election Commission over alleged irregularities in West Bengal polls

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday, March 30 submitted a petition to the Election Commission, raising concerns about the conduct of the ongoing assembly elections in West Bengal.

According to Rijiju, the petition highlights alleged irregularities in the electoral process, claiming that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has exercised significant influence over administrative machinery at various levels. “We explained how the Chief Minister herself allegedly visited households, cautioning voters against supporting the BJP and warning of consequences,” he said.

The petition reportedly emphasizes that the administrative framework in the state—from senior officials to lower-ranking employees—has, according to the BJP, become aligned with TMC efforts during elections. Rijiju stated that the party has requested the Election Commission to ensure the elections are conducted in a free and fair manner, noting that the coercive practices allegedly used in previous elections should not be repeated.

Rijiju also mentioned that public sentiment in the state reflects widespread discontent against the TMC. He added that the Election Commission responded positively to the concerns raised and assured that appropriate measures would be taken to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
