In a shocking and startling incident took place in the Viman Nagar area of Pune, near Symbiosis College on December 27, where an illegal storage of approximately 100 LPG gas cylinders at an under-construction site led to a disastrous explosion.
The reports confirm that between 10 to 12 of these cylinders detonated following a fire outbreak at the location. The Pune Fire Department promptly responded to the emergency by deploying three fire tenders to manage the blaze. Fortunately, there have been no casualties reported in connection with this event.
The explosion was attributed to the highly flammable nature of LPG, which can form a combustible mixture when leaked and mixed with air. A spark or source of ignition is all that is needed to trigger an explosion in such a scenario. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by improper storage and handling of gas cylinders. It also highlights the importance of adhering to safety regulations to prevent such potentially catastrophic events.
The fire brigade's swift action in dousing the flames averted a major disaster, ensuring the safety of the surrounding community. As the situation in Viman Nagar stabilizes, further details are awaited to understand the full extent of the incident and the measures that will be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
